A Fire Engine came to school.
We were very lucky to have a visit from a fire engine. The firefighters showed us around their fire engine. We were so impressed to find out that the fire engine had four ladders, three we could see and a secret one! We were even allowed to have a sit inside it. The children couldn't believe there was a coffee machine inside it to keep the firefighter warm when they were on a job.
The KS1 children made cardboard houses and these were placed on the school field. We then linked it to our learning about 'The Great Fire of London' to see how quickly a fire spread between houses. The children knew that during 'The Great Fire of London', the fire was put out by people carrying buckets of water from the River Thames. Today we have fire engines and firefighters to help put fires out. The EYFS children learnt how to make an emergency call by dialling 999 and asking for a fire department. The fire engine put on its siren and the children were amazed with the flashing blue light, although some of us weren't so happy with the loud noise. Two children then helped with the hose to put the fire out.
Thank you so much to the fire engine and Firefighters for this amazing experience.
