British Science Week 2025
Thursday 13th March - Camouflage Caterpillars
This activity really demonstrated to the children what camouflage meant. The number of caterpillars we lost on the field because they were camouflaged so well was a good majority!
The children made themselves caterpillars from different coloured strands of wool. The children then worked with a partner, and we went outside to hide our caterpillars in the grass and then asked our partner to think like a hungry bird and find them. Some of us found it extremely challenging to find our caterpillars! We loved taking our learning outside.
We were able to talk about how the colour of our caterpillar (piece of wool) affected how easy it was to find our caterpillars.
