Physical Education (PE)
The aim of Physical Education at The John Harrox Primary School is to enable all pupils in our care to become independently active within school and the community. We encourage them to develop confidence and competence in physical skills and to value the contribution of others. Having a 'Healthy Outlook' is at the heart of our curriculum and we promote both physical health and mental health and well being.
We focus on ensuring the children are active during playtimes with the physical encouragement of playground leaders. The children are given many opportunities to improve their sporting skills at various after-school clubs. Following on from these, the children compete in many sporting leagues and competitions against other schools. The competitions are organised by Elite Sports and Agilitas.
We aim to keep competitive sport at the heart of our school and to provide our children with the opportunities to compete and achieve their personal best.
Physical education takes place in the school, its environment and in the wider community including residential visits.
Our teaching is based on the programmes of study contained in the National Curriculum document. This is supported by the Complete PE scheme of work. Games work is also supplemented with the ‘Quicksticks Hockey’ resource for Hockey and School games Pop Lacrosse resource for Lacrosse. Swimming is taught through the National Curriculum by swimming instructors.
These are the National curriculum aims we follow.
